The Story: Much of Japanese Shinto mythology centers around all things creepy - vengeful spirits, monsters, things with sharp teeth - and this one is no different. Goddess of the Sun Amaterasu walked the earth providing warmth and light. Her troublemaker brother Susanoo, God of Storms, wreaked havoc on her lands causing her to flee and seal herself inside a cave. Without her sunlight, the world plunged into darkness and the evil entities ran wild.

The other gods tried to lure her out of her hiding place with shiny objects like mirrors and fine jewelry (which would probably work on me, to be honest...) Drawn out by her reflection in the light, Amaterasu brought the sun back with her reemergence, thus the story of the Suncatcher.
