I wasn't going to create a Mother's Day candle. It was sort of a last minute decision. A few weeks ago I left my daughter for the first time to attend a bachelorette trip to Nashville for a good friend (it was the BEST time ever, by the way).
The week prior, my daughter and I had our final breastfeeding session after 14 long months. I wasn't nervous to be leaving her, she was in the greatest hands and totally fine without me (sob...) but I WAS sad. My first overnight without her, my first morning where I wasn't the one picking her up out of the crib. It was time, but I wasn't ready.
Once we landed in Nashville, we met up with another girl in the group I hadn't met before. She had just finished a pumping session in the airport. It was her first time leaving her son, too.
And so it went, 5 of us on the trip were all new-ish moms. We bonded over our breastfeeding journeys while washing pump parts, sharing birth (war) stories, the good stuff about having toddlers, and a lot of funny "why are they so feral?" moments. It was cathartic and comforting.
And so, I decided to pull a blend out of my back pocket I've been wanting to share with Wicked Flicker customers for ages but wasn't sure how. This felt right, finally.
Mountain Mama is a sunny, happy honeyed floral blend with notes of wildflowers topped with sweet honey nectar and tonka bean. It evokes memoires of a simpler time in motherhood, chasing our babies outdoors in the summer sun, muddy toes, and no place to be. A blend to remind us mamas that "these are the days" even when it's hard.
Book recommendation: Finlay Donovan is Killing It, Elle Cosimano
This book series follows stressed out single mom of two toddlers and struggling author Finlay. Overheard discussing the plot to her latest thriller novel, she's mistaken for a contract killer and inadvertently hired to dispose of someone's mobster husband.
These books are hilarious and unhinged with plenty of relatable mom moments sprinkled throughout. The perfect series to get out of your "I don't know what to read" slump.
Currently reading... Two Twisted Crowns, Rachel Gillig
The 2nd novel in The Shepherd King duology, this book seems to beat the fateful "book 2 curse." Gothic horror meets fantasy, Elspeth Spindle has a secret buried inside her. After an encounter in the misty forest with a hooded highwayman, who turns out to be the cruel king's treasonous nephew, the two join forces to collect all 12 magical Province cards--the key to cure their kingdom.
If you like fantasy but need a break from horny fairies, this series is for you.
Happy Mother's Day!!
