Aurora: A Fresh Start

Aurora: A Fresh Start

Aurora means "day" or "dawn." A time of fresh starts and new beginnings. This candle is inspired by Ostara, the Goddess of Dawn and Spring, from whom we get our modern day Easter traditions like the Easter Bunny and those colorful pastel eggs. (I'm known to slam a bag of Cadburys, no shame). This pre-Christian holiday was celebrated on the spring equinox by ancient Europeans, Celts, Saxons, and Norse folk.

In the tale of Ostara and the Hare, Ostara befriends a sparrow dying in the snow. Devastated by the hare's death, Ostara transforms the sparrow into a hare named Lepus. As an offering in honor of his rebirth, Lepus lays colorful eggs to celebrate the spring equinox. The eggs serve as a reminder of rebirth and transformation from his original bird form.

A Return to Our Roots

I feel like everywhere we turn people are making an effort to return to a more natural, holistic approach to living from starting micro gardens in their apartment windows to baking sourdough. Most important of all, we're becoming more aware of what we consume - food, candles, content, relationships... I wanted to create a fragrance that evoked a sense of longing for a slow living, of returning to our roots and stripping away all of the excess - the junk.

Aurora has notes of ripe citrus like clementine and orange layered with the greenery of tomato leaf, mint, and basil. It's a blend I've been working on for the past few years and I FINALLY nailed the scent I had stuck in my head all this time. It smells like walking barefoot through a garden collecting fresh herbs and ripe fruit. Your Sunday farmer's market in a jar.

This fragrance is a warm weather exclusive - enjoy!

Book Recommendation: The Villa, by Rachel Hawkins

Told in alternating timelines, two childhood friends (who have literally nothing in common) take the trip of a lifetime to an Italian villa with a dark, murderous history.

I listened to this one on audio and it was a fast-paced read with highly unlikeable characters (my favorite kinds of characters and probably no one else's). This book has nothing to do with this candle other than the lemons on the cover...

Currently Reading... The Favorites, by Layne Fargo

If you're a fan of Taylor Jenkins Reed, you'll probably enjoy this too! It's giving major Carrie Soto is Back vibes. It's all about an elite figure skating duo who navigate romance, fame, and tragedy. The short chapters have been making this one fly.
